We started working with colleges because we were invited to resolve problems caused by the inflexibility of boxed software that neither the experienced Sage Business Partners or Sage themselves were prepared or able to fix. Sage asked us to step in as it was about to "go legal". Having resolved the issues we developed the solution further and now it supports all aspects of "Employer engagement" Course management, and related issues to ensure high retention and higher course completions.

Any boxed solution needs to deny the College or skills broker access and control over the solution otherwise how will the software vendor make residual revenue? If you are looking at any system, make sure your costs are a “one off” and not a rental model and that you don’t need to pay for access to the SA password, that you can import and export to every table in the database and that you can create new tables or fields as required and that you can implement a mix of rigid and flexible access policies on the fly.

“Thanet College implemented CRM4FE during July 05 as part of our continuing bid for A4BC status, following a wide-ranging evaluation of options in CRMs.

During the previous few months we had been asked searching questions by both LLSC and assessors relating to our engagement with employers and whilst we had been able to give answers eventually, it had taken considerable effort on several members of staff to give the data required. 

Since incorporating the CRMs into our College culture the information is available to all staff at a couple of mouse clicks. We are able to analyse our market effectively, understand the sectors we are not providing for, look at targets relating to priority sectors and more. 

Until we started using the CRMs we were unable to provide engagement targets to curriculum areas, but now we not only provide targets but are able to provide reports to SMT and Governors on our progress towards hitting the targets.
